The AED is a
medical device contains a super analyzer of the victim’s heart rhythm.
It analyzes the victim’s heart rhythm and determines an abnormal heart
rhythm which needs defibrillation (electric shock).
An AED
is light, small and handy to carry. It is easily operated. After the
button is pushed or the lid is opened, it will tell you through a voice
prompt how to proceed.
If defibrillation is not needed, it is not electrified even if the button is pushed. It is designed for safe use.

AED ’s approved by the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law at present

What is defibrillation?
It
is the definitive treatment for an abnormal heart rhythm caused by
“sudden cardiac arrest”, that is, giving an electric shock to the
victim’s heart makes the heart rhythm normal.

AED : Automated External Defibrillator

1. Talk to and pat the victim on the shoulder.

2. If the victim is NOT conscious, yell for help.
Ask people nearby to dial 119 and get the AED.

3. Open the airway. Check for breathing.

Open the airway.
See, within ten seconds, if the victim has normal breathing.

4. If NO breathing, give rescue breathing TWICE.

Give a breath for a second until the chest rises slightly.
Give another in the same way.

* Breathing can be skipped when impossible.

5. Give chest compression soon after breathing.

Ratio: 30 (compressions) : 2 (breaths)
Repeat compression and breathing.

Keep on swiftly and strongly.
Stop when the chest rises back.

6. Now you have the AED.

Turn it ON.

Some machines turn on automatically when their lids are opened.

7. Place the pads on the chest.

Pictures on the pads show where to put the pads on the chest.
Have the chest unwet. Put the pads tightly.

* On Children:
Use children’s pads. If none, use adults’ ones.
(Don’t use AEDs on babies.)
8. Let the AED see if the victim needs electric shocks.

Don’t touch the victim while the machine reads the victim’s heartbeat.

9. Press the “shock button”.

Keep a crowd back.
Press the flashing button.

Shock button

Follow what the AED tells.
Repeat the CPR and AED steps until:
*The EMS staff arrives.
*The victim moves and/or responds (ex. “refusal”), or
*The victim resumes normal breathing.

Today, buildings in Tokyo are higher above and deeper below the ground,
and are used as multioccupancy facilities more often than in the past.
Fires in these buildings are much more difficult to fight. Recognizing
the necessity for quick, adequate emergency responses, the TFD educates
its firefighting personnel by providing them with expertise and the opportunity
to enhance physical strength. The TFD gives training to its personnel,
and keeps on the alert for fires and other emergencies.
